How to read professor ratings

Kemon Poray editorial guidance · Last reviewed

Read the count before the score

One student’s rating is one experience. A larger sample gives more perspectives, but it can still miss courses, semesters or teaching changes. A score with no ratings is missing feedback, not a judgment about the professor.

Compare dimensions and context

Look at the separate rating dimensions rather than relying only on the overall score. Teaching clarity, grading and workload can matter differently to different students. Read available course context and published reviews together. Students can disagree without either account being dishonest.

Use feedback as a starting point

A rating cannot guarantee how your next course will feel. Check official course information and current faculty appointments, consider your learning needs, and ask questions before choosing a course. Missing written reviews mean there is less context to interpret.

Privacy and contributing

Public ratings and reviews do not display your email or account label. Account associations remain privately stored to prevent duplicates and control abuse. Google sign-in and a permanent university and department assignment do not prove enrollment. Only rate professors you have studied with and are eligible to rate through the existing account rules.

Find a professor and share your experience

Open a professor page, choose Rate professor, and follow the sign-in and affiliation steps. Written reviews use the existing rating flow and moderation rules.
